Succession Planning – Technology Leadership
Client: UK FS Group investment management subsidiary (~25k staff, ~$250bn AUM).

Reporting to: CEO & CIO

Challenge:
The client wanted a proactive succession-planning initiative to build relationships with future CIO-calibre leaders across the market. The objective was to create an informal forum for market insight, mentoring, and early-stage talent pipelining.

Approach:

  • Mapped and engaged candidates capable of stepping into a CIO role within two time horizons: 0–18 months and 3–5 years.
  • Delivered a curated longlist and facilitated introductions to 5 candidates from each bracket.
  • Supported structured but informal networking conversations focused on market trends, leadership challenges and peer mentoring.

Outcome:
The client selected 3 individuals for an ongoing networking and mentoring relationship, strengthening its leadership bench and long-term succession pipeline.

Challenge:
The business required a technology leader with deep SaaS expertise, exposure to consumer-facing environments, and experience operating across both large-scale and high-growth settings.

Approach:

  • Targeted CTOs and technology-oriented CEOs within SaaS and consumer digital markets.
  • Conducted a structured evaluation resulting in a shortlist of three candidates.
  • Final stage assessment included personality profiling and an online coding review for technical validation.

Outcome:
Appointed a leader with the blend of enterprise-scale rigour and start-up agility the client needed to accelerate product and platform evolution.

Challenge:
Following multiple cyber incidents, the organisation required an Interim CISO to stabilise the environment, provide assurance, and strengthen cyber resilience while a permanent hire was identified.

Approach:

  • Secured an immediate interim leader with deep incident management and assurance experience.
  • Interim delivered a cyber strategy roadmap, including operating model, resourcing, budget planning and governance uplift.
  • Ran a parallel executive search for the permanent CISO.

Outcome:
Hired a permanent CISO from an industrials/infrastructure background; knowledge transfer was completed seamlessly with the interim to ensure continuity.

Security had been embedded within IT service delivery, but maturing risk posture required the creation of a standalone Information Security function and dedicated leader.

Approach:

  • Appointed an interim specialist to address urgent security needs and build foundational policies and frameworks.
  • Ran a targeted search focusing on individuals from best-practice environments seeking their first leadership role.

Outcome:
Placed a permanent Head of Information Security who brought modernised practices from a larger institution and established the university’s first independent InfoSec capability.

The business sought a CIO to drive digitisation, strengthen global IT performance, and accelerate Industry 4.0 adoption as part of a broader succession and diversity initiative.

Approach:

  • Conducted a national and pan-European search with strong emphasis on transformation leadership and diversity.
  • Assessed candidates for digitisation experience, engineering/automation integration, and global operating model maturity.

Outcome:
Delivered and appointed a diverse CIO capable of driving digital transformation and Industry 4.0 innovation across the global footprint.

Following a major reorganisation, the client required a leader to advance data governance, enhance data quality, and scale AI across front- and back-office operations.

Approach:

  • Led an international search for a senior data executive with cross-industry experience and strong regulatory credentials.
  • Evaluated candidates for leadership capability across teams of 50+ and for experience managing large-scale systems rationalisation and migrations.

Outcome:
Appointed an experienced Chief Data Officer with deep multi-sector expertise and a strong regulatory track record to lead AI enablement and data modernisation globally.

Challenge:
The board sought specialist advisory capability to support the shift from traditional construction to automated, factory-led manufacturing.

Approach:

  • Identified senior technology and automation leaders with proven experience implementing large-scale robotics and digital manufacturing within high-volume environments.
  • Evaluated candidates based on their ability to manage challenging and demanding executive careers with either their first (or recent step into) advisory role

Appointed a board adviser (who was in a CTO role) instrumental in advancing automation strategies across three manufacturing sites, supporting ambitions of up to 5,000 units per year.

The university required an Interim CIDO to lead a three-year transformation focused on modernising digital services, replacing legacy systems, and uplifting service delivery performance.

  • Conducted a cross-sector search emphasising change leadership and ability to navigate academic governance.
  • Prioritised candidates with both commercial transformation experience and some exposure to higher education environments or complex public sector organisations.

Outcome:
Appointed an interim leader with strong private-sector credentials and relevant university experience, enabling rapid mobilisation, credibility, and cultural alignment.
